SNES Classic Mini – Get excited with the release of the new Nintendo SNES Classic Mini game console. The SNES Classic Mini is a miniature version of the retro Nintendo & is equipped with 4 GB Ram, 21 pre-installed classic games & two controllers.
Introducing the Nintendo SNES Classic Mini
SNES Classic Mini – Unexpectedly, the launch of the Nintendo SNES Classic Mini did not happen. Finally, Nintendo had revived the classic NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) a year earlier. This became an unexpectedly great success.
The 8-bit NES was succeeded in 1991 by the 16-Bit SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). After the huge sales success with the NES and the Game Boy, the SNES became a huge hit for Nintendo. Worldwide nearly 50 million copies were sold.
Nintendo SNES gaming computer in the 90’s
I was about 10 and still know that I got my Super Nintendo game computer from my parents. Luckily I was fond of game consoles before that and I played on the Game Boy, but playing on the TV was quite impressive. In addition, playing multi-player games was more fun via the television. So many times passed, Donkey Kong and Super Mario World were my favorite favorites at the time.
I was therefore very curious how my experience would be about 25 years later; do I still find it addictive? Or are the limited graphics a real game breaker?
Incidentally, in this review of the European Nintendo SNES Classic Mini. Although the system for the Japanese and Australians has the same design as ours, the American version of the SNES Classic Mini looks like everything else used to be. Not only is the design different, even the pre-installed games vary by region.
Design and Concept of the Nintendo Classic Mini
Although it is possible to derive from the name, I was surprised at the SNES Classic Mini dimensions. It is an extremely small and light system; 25.5 × 8.5 × 20.2cm (WxHxD). The SNES Classic Mini controllers have the same dimensions as before, so it felt right again. Convenient is the fact that two controllers come with the system as standard.
Less convenient is the length of the cable. This is 140cm short. As a result, you are obliged to sit close to your TV. If you look at the same kind of screen as before, that’s not a problem, but on my 55-inch Smart TV I found it a bit depressed. Alternatively, you can purchase an extension cable.
The connection for the SNES Classic Mini controllers has been renewed. In the same place as before, namely at the front of the device, there is a valve behind which the connections can be found. If the lid is closed, look at the connections earlier. This is a beautiful detail, which is not only available at the connections.
The SNES Classic Mini new design also incorporates the traditional ‚Eject‘ button, which used to help you get the game cartridges out of the device. The slot where you entered the game was also included in the design. With 21 games pre-installed, they do not service anymore, it’s purely for decoration and the nostalgic memory of the past of course.
In addition, on the SNES Classic Mini console you will find an on / off switch and a reset button to return to the main menu from any game at any time. The Nintendo game system automatically creates an interruption factor that you can save. You can save four interruptions per game, and you can also overwrite saved interruptions.
Connecting the SNES Classic Mini system to your TV is very simple and fast with the supplied HMDI cable. The microUSB cable (DC in jack) provides power supply.
SNES Classic Mini Menu interface
The boot of the Nintendo SNES Classic Mini game console has been puffed out in no time. By scrolling left and right you will go through the different games. By navigating to the bottom you will find the stored interruptions.
There are three display views; Tube, 4: 3, and Original Resolution. In addition, you can choose different frames, which surround the rectangular games. For example, instead of black edges, you can choose a glow effect, whose colors change based on the game you are playing.
Play games on the classic Super Nintendo
There are 21 games on the Nintendo Classic mini game computer preinstalled. A strange number! That’s because Nintendo chose to provide the system with 20 popular retro games. In addition, there is one game; Star Fox 2, previously designed but never released; a new old game so. To play the game you must first complete the 1st level of Star Fox 1.
The games that are on the SNES Classic Mini computer are preinstalled; Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid, Super Punch Out, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Contra II The Aliens War, Earthbound , F-Zero, Final Fantasy II, Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Course, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox II, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania IV and finally Super Ghouls’n Ghosts.
A number of the game SNES Classic Mini titles are different from before. This also has to do with the different regions. The games pre-installed on the European game console are similar to the American version. As a result, some games have received other titles like Contra III: The Alien Wars, known in Europe as Super Probotector: Alien Rebels. Apart from the title, the game remains the same.
It’s a pity that the Nintendo game console is still unavailable in some countries, and there are a beautiful set of games preinstalled, with a nice variety of adventure, racing, shooting and fighting games. But there are also so many popular games not included in the SNES Classic Mini. In addition, the launch of NES Classic Mini was launched with 30 games last year.
Rewind game
A new feature on the Nintendo SNES Classic Mini is the ability to rewind a game. How long you can rewind differs per game. For example, you can rewind Donkey Kong Country and Mario Kart for about 40 seconds, while Super Mario RPG can take 4 minutes back in time.
It’s a handy feature for real SNES Classic Mini game fanatics; had you just come across a difficult piece and then still be dead, and then you can do that last bit again. The disadvantage is that you must first press the ‚Reset‘ button on the game machine. After creating an interruption, click the X button to rewind the game. As a result, it just takes a little more effort than you might wish.
Nintendo SNES Classic Mini Review Conclusion
The Nintendo SNES Classic Mini has been available for a month, yet the game machine is still sold out. For less than 100 Euros, you buy a nostalgic gaming system. The fact that two controllers are included with the SNES Classic Min is a big plus, although the length of the cable up to the console had a little longer.
There are a nice variety of games pre-installed. Striking is also the difficulty of the games. I’m well aware that I used to be able to do one level for hours for hours, while you went through other levels. That’s actually nothing else.
The SNES Classic Mini games may look graphical or not top and top, because of the difficulty level, the wide variety of levels and the recognizable soundtrack tunes, you’ll be back in. As a result, it remains as captivating and addictive as before. A nice extra is the ability to rewind a game for a few seconds to a few minutes.
And yes, of course, it’s getting used to the SNES Classic Mini graphics. Finally, the graphics today are so realistic and sharp that you do not have to look long to see the differences between the past and the present. Nevertheless, in the 1990s, they knew very well about the possibilities. As far as I am concerned, therefore, there is an additional piece of nostalgia.
