The GEZE MBZ 300 weather module

(pressebox) Leonberg, 20.01.2011 – As the central control unit of a smoke and heat extraction unit, the RWA BUS MBZ 300 central unit coordinates a wide range of ventilation, smoke and heat extraction tasks. It takes on the supply, coordination and monitoring of all connected opening systems and components. The modular design of the MBZ 300 offers planners and architects great flexibility and planning security. It can not only be extended, but can be flexibly matched to a building’s future requirements as well. Additional modules for even more user convenience and safety for man and building make this possible. One of these is the new MBZ 300 weather module.

In the event of smoke and heat removal during a fire, the intelligent wind direction sensor of the MBZ 300 weather module control the exhaust and fresh air openings of the building in accordance with the direction of the wind. All opening elements that are able to effectively contribute to the extraction of smoke and heat are thus opened in a targeted manner. Disruptive wind influences are prevented by the closing of appropriate windows or not opening them in the first place. This makes the removal of smoke even more safe and efficient. A significant additional benefit of the weather module is the wind direction dependant control, in particular, of SHEVS (= naturally acting smoke and heat extractors): This enables SHEVs to be used on all vertical facades, not just skylights, and thus expands the design options available.

Additional use for ventilation – protection in heavy weather

When equipped with the MBZ 300 weather module the ventilation as an added value delivered by the RWA BUS control centre MBZ 300 is even more effective: when the wind reaches a certain speed, or if it is raining, the windows are closed, and the room and objects in it cannot get damaged. Thanks to the possibilities of connecting shade drives, blinds are returned to their parking positions and protected in the case of wind and rain. Additionally, shutters and blinds can be controlled in case of emergency so that complex requirements can be fulfilled within a single system supplied by emergency power.

Highly effective – advantages in installation and commissioning

The ventilation controls of an RWA can be set individually with the configuration software. When set wind-speeds are exceeded, windows are shut automatically. A weather module is capable of providing the control information for several ventilation buttons and up to 30 RWA control units. In this way, one module can serve several groups of ventilators and control units. In the same way, one module can serve several groups of ventilators and control units. Even entire groups of SHEVs with wind direction controlled openings can be set up and controlled quickly and conveniently. This means a considerable reduction in the provision of wiring and this saves time and money. The MBZ 300 weather module is simply fitted onto the top-hat rail-mounted housing of the MBZ 300 RWA BUS central control unit and connected up. Thanks to its compact construction, it can be easily integrated into the central unit.

A direct indication of the wind and rain conditions on the weather module is an intelligent feedback and saves time and expense when commissioning. Floating contacts warn of a pending wind or rain signal and make possible simple interfaces to other possibly higher-ranking control units and potential indications.
