With the establishment of the Knorr-Bremse PowerTech brand, Knorr Bremse AG strengthens its position as the premier system provider for the rail transport industry: Knorr-Bremse PowerTech is an innovator in a market with growth potential.

In February 2016, Berlin-based PCS Power Converter Solutions GmbH and Holzkirchen-based Transtechnik GmbH & Co. KG were purchased by Knorr-Bremse and changed their names to Knorr-Bremse PowerTech GmbH, Berlin and Knorr-Bremse PowerTech GmbH & Co. KG, Holzkirchen respectively. Operating in the market under the banner of Knorr-Bremse PowerTech, the two companies offer a variety of different onboard power supply systems and battery chargers for all types of rail vehicles, from metros to high speed trains. Their portfolio also includes electrical energy supply systems for industrial applications.

Energy requirements on trains are increasing due to the need for higher comfort and security. The efficient energy supply systems from Knorr-Bremse PowerTech are optimally integrated into the onboard systems to regulate energy consumption. With PowerTech, Knorr-Bremse is also moving its focus beyond the train itself and providing equipment for the industrial sector for such applications as test rigs for the railway industry. In addition to the extended range of OEM and after-market services for rail vehicles, Knorr-Bremse PowerTech customers also benefit from the strong international distribution, production and service network of Knorr-Bremse AG.

Jure Mikolcic, CEO of Knorr-Bremse PowerTech, is optimistic entering this new era: “Having unified the company names, we can now focus fully on the PowerTech brand. Customers expect the trusted quality of the companies PCS and Transtechnik, and they will have the same contact persons. Our promise to the sector is to provide the highest quality product development in our own development center as well as first-class system consulting. In that regard, Knorr-Bremse PowerTech will continue to focus on maintaining lasting and effective customer relationships and providing the necessary level of on-site service at its locations across four continents. We support our customers with commissioning and training, all while combining the flexibility of a medium-sized company with the capacities of major industry player.”

Knorr-Bremse PowerTech is a combination of leading power supply companies under the umbrella of the Knorr-Bremse Group. More than 500 employees at five sites on four continents work together to pioneer solutions for energy conversion. The Knorr-Bremse PowerTech portfolio includes converter products and electrical equipment for a broad spectrum of rail vehicles as well as energy production, storage, industrial applications and high-end dynamic test bench applications.
