(pressebox) Munich – Valletta, 30.04.2011 – The Embassy of Malta in Berlin, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Information Technology (MITC), Malta Enterprise and Smart City Malta joined forces to promote Malta to the business community in Bavaria as a leading regional ICT hub between 12th and 14th April 2011.
From 12th to 13th April 2011, the delegation, led by Malta’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Mr. Karl Xuereb visited a number of prominent companies in several locations including Munich and Nuremburg to present Malta as a prime investment destination for ICT business. On 14th April a seminar featuring Malta as a prime regional hub for ICT business was held at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in central Munich. The seminar was attended by representatives of some 35 companies engaged in the ICT sector.
In his opening remarks to the seminar Malta’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Mr. Karl Xuereb emphasized the strong business links between the two countries. He stated “Malta and Germany have excellent commercial relations whilst Germany is Malta’s number one source of direct investment. Malta is a country where German investments have prospered and where German business feels at home. The government of Malta has identified ICT as one of the major drivers of Malta’s future economic growth. We are here today to communicate strategic advantages that Malta represents to German operators in the ICT sector.”
The seminar was also addressed by Mr. Joe Schembri, Policy Advisor at MITC and Mr. Andrew Davies, Business Development Manager at Smart City Malta. Mr. Schembri’s presentation outlined how Malta can serve as a cost-effective base for companies involved in knowledge industries. He explained Malta’s accomplishments in ICT emphasizing the government’s commitment to the sector, investment in infrastructure, access to markets and how the ICT cluster had developed in Malta over the years. Mr. Davies’ presentation focused on the particular advantages that the development of Smart City Malta offers international investors.
The organization of the promotional activities was facilitated by Malta’s Hon. Consul in Bavaria Mr. Bernhard Müller-Menrad and Ms. Sonja Winner of Malta Enterprise.
